A letter to the editor by Cindy Jerome of Cinnaminson, NJ
The free press is a foundation of democracy. For more than 2 years I have been watching as the free press and news shows have been trying to uncover and report the news so the public is informed.
However, I take issue with the way news has been covered over the last two and a half years. Lies should be called “lies”, and not “falsehoods” or “untruths” and the truth should be stated immediately! These lies should not be constantly repeated and discussed on the news, since the more some people hear it, the more they believe it!
More focus should be on what is actually happening, behind the curtain, if you will, not on shiny objects and diversions! There are so many things that should be focused on that are forgotten! For instance, there are immigrant children still separated from their families. This is a human rights violation and unconscionable! Also, our air and water are being made unsafe by this administration. There are many other examples.
I think, sometimes, the media is being manipulated into covering what the administration wants covered. A lot of time is spent on ridiculous tweets and repetitious, but untrue, statements. Stop discussing this! It isn’t what we should be focused on! Stick to provable facts, call out lies and replace with facts, and minimize coverage of the nonsensical rants and tweets. We do not need their influence! Do not let this administration control the conversation!
When you hear “fake news” replace it with “true, but unfavorable to you news”.
I know ratings are important to the media, but fact based news and not a circus sideshow is more important to our democracy! Stay strong and confident! You are the backbone of our democracy!
