WESTAMPTON, NJ — The Westampton Township, New Jersey, township committee will vote tonight on whether to pay a $500,000 settlement to Lumberton resident, “political operative,” and former Westampton fire chief, Jason Carty. The potential settlement relates to a wrongful termination suit levied by Carty against the township in 2015. The text of the resolution is as follows:
158-18 Authorize Settlement Agreement – this resolution authorizes a settlement agreement in a matter of Carty V. Township of Westampton, et al., in an amount not to exceed $500,000.00.
The resolution, as pictured at the top of this article, is contained in the agenda for tomorrow night’s meeting.
The Carty lawsuit is part of a story we covered in June of 2017. The story documents the experience of former Westampton mayor C. Andre Daniels and, in significant part, his relationship with Jason Carty. The suit is also mentioned in some follow-up articles.
We have reached out to Jason Carty who referred us to his lawyer, but otherwise had no comment.
This is a developing story. We have also reached out all current Westampton committee members, and former committee members C. Andre Daniels and Abraham Lopez. Daniels and Lopez were both on committee at the time of Carty’s dismissal. This story will be updated with any responses we receive.
