OPINION: Tom MacArthur’s vile attack ad on Andy Kim

Dear Editor:
There is an attack ad running on television against Andy Kim that is nothing but lies and misrepresentations. It is so vile, that I assumed that Congressman Tom MacArthur, if he had a modicum of decency, would never run it. But, at the conclusion of the ad, he is seen on screen stating, “I approve this ad.”
Apparently, the Congressman is so bereft of positive ideas or so ashamed of his bromance with Trump, that all he can do is run ads full,of falsehoods and innuendo. I don’t blame him for being ashamed of his voting record. Unlike many of his Republican colleagues in the New Jersey delegation, he votes his fealty to Trump ahead of his respect for the electorate.
Thank goodness we have the opportunity to make him our former congressman when we vote in November. The constituents of NJ CD 3 know the facts and will not be influenced by lies.

OPINION: A patently misleading attack ad

Why am I not surprised that Millionaire MacArthur would run such patently misleading attack ads about his Democratic challenger Andy Kim? TMac is running scared and the worst dirt that he could find was that, after Andy Kim moved back to NJ, he had to amend his tax return to stop getting a rebate on his home in DC. Plus, he accuses Andy Kim of not paying property taxes?
Andy Kim moved with his family back to NJ, where he grew up, and is currently living in a rental, like 36% of New Jersey residents. His rent allows his landlord to pay property taxes. Yet TMac falsely portrays Andy Kim as a tax cheat in glitzy expensive TV ads? Andy Kim is an honest, hard-working, experienced public servant who will fight for healthcare, gun safety, and the interests of his constituents.
Andy Kim will have regular town halls to listen to our concerns and won’t let his vote be bought by big corporate PACs like the NRA. Don’t believe the lies Millionaire MacArthur pays to broadcast everywhere. Check out http://andykimforcongress.com/ and http://nj3rd.org/ for the true facts.

OPINION: Beneath contempt

Dear Editor:
There is a vile commercial filled with misrepresentations and lies being endorsed by Congressman Tom MacArthur to denigrate Andy Kim, his opponent for Congress in NJ CD3. The political ad is a pathetic personal attack and in no way addresses policy differences between the two candidates.
I find lying personal attacks to be beneath contempt. I would, however, like to make some statements that reflect that last two years of Tom MacArthur’s term in office. All my statements are truthful, honest, and verifiable.
- Tom MacArthur revived the attempted repeal of the Affordable Care Act through the MacArthur Amendment. If he had been successful, coverage for people with pre existing conditions would have skyrocketed in price. Many people would have been left without coverage.
- Tom MacArthur was the only Congressman in New Jersey to support the Trump Tax scam. He helped pass a law that limits the amount of property tax that can be deducted on your federal income tax return. This not only increases the taxes paid by many residents, it has negatively affected property values in New Jersey.
- Tom MacArthur votes 94% of the time to support the agenda of Donald Trump. Donald Trump has had his top advisors and campaign personnel under investigation because of ties to Russia. There is irrefutable evidence that Russia tried to influence our elections, foment division and mistrust among citizens, and hack into our electoral systems. The Congressman has never once spoken against Trump when he denied this “meddling”, when he has had secret meetings with a foreign adversary and then fails to debrief key personnel, nor when he calls the press “the enemy of the people”.
I could go on and on. Suffice it to say that if Tom MacArthur was proud of his voting record he would rely on that for his campaign and not stoop to this pitiful level of personal attack. It is hard to run on a record despised by most of your constituents. November can’t come soon enough.
