To the Editor:
I am sick about the reports of children being separated from their parents at our border, and housed in conditions that are quite literally prisons. I’ve read that some of our representatives from Congress tried to gain access to these facilities, and were denied. My understanding is that more than 10,000 migrant kids are being held at 100 prison/shelters, which are now 95 percent full.
The Department of Health and Human Services is prepared to visit Fort Bliss near El Paso to look at property where the Trump administration is considering building a tent city to hold between 1,000 and 5,000 children.
My congressman, Tom MacArthur has not spoken publicly about any of this. The history of his tenure tells the citizens of this district that if Tom MacArthur is silent, he does not oppose it. I call upon the Congressman to make a public statement immediately denouncing the policies of this administration as it pertains to separating families and housing them in prisons on American soil. I call on him to get his peers in Congress together and force this president to halt this inhuman policy immediately.
Anyone who thinks this disgraceful policy is who Americans are is going to be very surprised in November. This disgusting policy is going to be the end of the Republican Party and I, for one, cannot wait.
