A letter to the editor by Lisa Cenneno of Mount Holly, NJ
I sit and watch the evening news, and once again I hear about children as young as one-year-old being ripped from their parents and placed in cages like animals. This is happening because their parents dare to present themselves at the border seeking asylum. This is happening because their parents try to cross our borders so they can provide their children a life without war, gang related violence, or violent threats to their safety. All they are seeking is a life where their children can have a future!
From the moment the children are stolen away from their parents they are being warehoused, placed in cages and given nothing more than solar blankets. No one has been allowed in to report on whether these children have adequate food, medical attention, physical activity, or the nurturing that a child desires, let alone one facing trauma needs. These innocent children are being traumatized in the most cruel and inhumane way possible.
I am angry and frustrated because Congressman Tom MacArthur, as a father and a representative of families, does nothing! He must think this brutal action is ok. I cannot think anything else as he has said nothing and does nothing. He has never said a word to indicate that separating families is against his morals or his values. He supports this Administration and must believe that these people are nothing more than animals. He is complicit in allowing innocent children to be traumatized in the name of the United States while using taxpayer dollars!
Congressman MacArthur, I look forward to voting for your opponent Andy Kim In November. Your values do not match mine nor the values I have tried to teach my own children! I could never support a representative who does not speak up and chooses to be complicit when children are placed in cages!
