A letter to the editor by Barbara S. Blonsky of Mount Laurel, NJ

Thank goodness for leadership committed to the protection of the citizens of New Jersey! Governor Murphy and Democrats in the New Jersey legislature have worked to pass measures to help stabilize the State Health Care Marketplace.

The Trump administration in collusion with Republican lawmakers has engaged in deliberate sabotage to destroy the health care marketplace. Their reasoning remains obscure at best. However, their tactics have resulted in large premium increases and an accompanying reduction in the number of insured.

Thankfully, Democrats in the state of New Jersey are seeking solutions to offset this sabotage and keep costs reasonable for consumers. What a relief to know my state representatives are interested in my health and welfare.

What a difference between the work of these state representatives and the efforts of my Congressman in NJCD 3. Tom MacArthur chooses to follows a party line meant to reward insurance companies, not constituents. He personally wrote and sponsored bills that would have stripped health care premium protections from those with pre-existing conditions. He has disregarded the countless pleas from constituents to protect the ACA. He is one of only a few NJ legislators to vote in a manner that treats his constituents with such disdain and disregard.

The bills being passed in New Jersey can become a model for other states to follow to protect consumers and make insurance more affordable. Thank you Governor Murphy and the sponsors of this bill for acting to preserve the coverage gains made under the ACA.
