After speaking at the Barnegat Democratic Club last night to approximately 100 people, Andy Kim has now secured the Club’s endorsement. The endorsement comes a week after receiving the endorsements of the Waretown and Hainesport Democratic Clubs.

Kim is running in the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s third congressional district against Fred LaVergne, for the seat currently occupied by Republican Tom MacArthur. Another potential Democratic opponent, Michael Cooke, announced that he is exploring a run last week, while another, Rich Dennison, tragically passed away on Monday evening, less than a month after announcing his candidacy.

We asked the president of the Barnegat Democratic Club, Ron Naples, why they chose to endorse Kim:

Andy has visited our club twice over the past year. He is passionate about public service. Our club members are impressed with Andy and wanted to be a part of his growing momentum. Democrats need to step up to bring the 3rd back to the people. We are proud to join Andy in this important goal. We welcome his leadership.

We also asked Kim for a reaction. He provided us with the following statement:

Thank you Barnegat for the invitation and the incredible turnout. I was honored to receive the endorsement from the Barnegat Democratic Club and I’m excited to work with people across Ocean County to build a government that works for all of us.
