OPINION: Calling on NJ-3’s MacArthur to denounce Trump’s hateful, divisive comments

Letter to the editor, by Laurel Smith, Medford, NJ

I am outraged by President Trumps continued racist comments and actions. It is time for our Congressman to take a stand against this hate speech. Replying with a heartfelt story of adoption from Korea, deflects from the issue instead of calling it by name.

Congressman MacArthur, we the constituents of the 3rd Congressional District are calling on you to denounce the hateful, divisive comments of President Trump. This is not the first time that he has made comments which are racist and serve no other purpose then to divide our country. His words not only are hurtful to our nation, but to the citizens of those nations as well.

In the past few weeks President Trump has accused all Haitians of having Aids and stated that all Nigerians live in huts. Today he has taken it to a new level with his comments. What looked like the beginning of a true bipartisan solution to DACA, was totally dismissed by a president who is tired of helping people who come from “shithole” countries.

In the past you have voted with President Trump’s agenda over 93% of the time.  It is time for you to take a stand for your constituents who are a diverse group of individuals. It is time for you to stand up and tell President Trump you condemn his racist comments and actions.

Sincerely,

Laurel Smith, Medford, NJ
